The 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections will take place on October 24, 2022 across the Province of Ontario. 

Internet Voting: Online voting is available anywhere, 24 hours a day, from 9:00 a.m. October 19 to 8:00 p.m. on October 24th. In order to vote online, you will need your PIN found on your Voter Information Letter, which will be mailed to all electors on the Voters' List prior to the election. 

In-Person Advanced Voting: Electors can vote in-person in advance of voting day at the Township Office (2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault). In-person advanced polls at the Township Office will be held:

• October 19-21: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
• October 22-23: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

In-Person Voting on Election Day: Electors can vote in-person at any of four polling stations on Election Day, October 24. Each polling station will be open from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Please note that if you wish to register to be added to the voter's list, or amend your information on the list, you must upload a photo or scan of an acceptable piece of identification. 

You are eligible to vote in the election for municipal council if you meet all of the following requirements:

• you are a Canadian citizen;
• you are aged 18 or older;
• you qualify to vote in the Township by meeting one of the three requirements:
  • As a resident elector if you live in South Stormont. You may own, rent, live in shared accommodation where you do not pay rent, or live in South Stormont but do not have a fixed address. 
  • As a non-resident elector if you own or rent property in South Stormont, but it’s not the one where you live on a full-time bases. You can only be a resident elector in 1 municipality. However, you can be a non-resident elector in any other municipality (or municipalities) where you own or rent property.
  • As the spouse of a non-resident elector if your spouse owns or rents property in South Stormont other than the one where you live.

Who is not eligible to vote in a municipal elections? 

• A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution.
• A corporation.
• A person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity, except as a voting proxy in accordance with section 44 of the Municipal Elections Act.
• A person who was convicted of the corrupt practice described in subsection 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted.

Each eligible and registered elector on the Voters' List will receive, by mail, a Voter Information Letter. If voting in-person, voters should bring their Voter Information Letter and a piece of Accepted Voter Identification. 

Your Voter Information Letter will include:

• The website for online voting;
• Your suggested voting place should you wish to vote by paper ballot;
• Your personal and confidential PIN (used for online voting)
• A list of candidates;
• The telephone number for the voter help centre should you have any questions

In order to vote online, you will need the website URL and your PIN found on your Voter Information Letter. As an added level of security, you will also need to input your date of birth to confirm your identity. 

Yes. If you receive more than one PIN it is because your name appears on the Voters' List more than once. This rare situation may occur if you changed your place of residence, or if you own more than one property in the municipality and are incorrectly registered as a resident at both locations. 

You are only permitted by law to vote ONCE in any municipality either as a resident or non-resident voter. 

If you receive more than one Voter Information Letter for the elections in South Stormont, please notify the Township Office. Any additional PINs will need to be cancelled rendering them unusable for the election.
