Background: 2024 Budget
Where do my taxes go?
Services funded by your property tax bill is distributed amongst three agencies. The Township of South Stormont collects the taxes dedicated to the United Counties of SDG, the province (for distribution to school boards), as well as the Township itself. In 2024, approximately 45% of the property tax bills collected was distributed to the United Counties of SDG, while the Township of South Stormont retained approximately 40%, with the remainder distributed to the Province of Ontario.
Of the property taxes that were retained by the Township of South Stormont in 2024, Transportation Services - such as road and bridge work and winter maintenance, accounted for the largest expenditures, followed by Parks and Recreation services. In 2024, taxation accounted for approximately 48% of the revenue generated by the Township of South Stormont. A number of other sources of revenue fund the remainder of the budget, including grants, user fees, reserves, investments and land sales.
