<p>Each year, the Township of South Stormont approves a Capital and Operating Budget that outlines the sources of revenues and expenditures for the coming year. In 2021, South Stormont shifted to implementing 3-year budgets that help to guide spending and streamline planning processes over multiple years. This year, budget preparations are centered around providing a budget for the years 2025-2027.</p><p>The Township of South Stormont values the input of all residents, business owners and stakeholders towards the critical decisions made on our annual budget. Many factors affect the Townships budget, and we continually balance necessary costs and priorities while maintaining the service levels that our community expects.</p><p>Please take some time to review the background information provided on this engagement page and provide your input via the survey below to ensure that your input is heard!</p><hr><h2>Background: 2024 Budget</h2><p><br></p><h3>Where do my taxes go?</h3><p>Services funded by your property tax bill is distributed amongst three agencies. The Township of South Stormont collects the taxes dedicated to the United Counties of SDG, the province (for distribution to school boards), as well as the Township itself. In 2024, approximately 45% of the property tax bills collected was distributed to the United Counties of SDG, while the Township of South Stormont retained approximately 40%, with the remainder distributed to the Province of Ontario.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><img src="https://s3.ca-central-1.amazonaws.com/ehq-production-canada/e0fd404eb61462832348c76b051dbe657b12d184/original/1726148713/7668bcdfa283f533b94a96599dd25046_Tax_Dollar_Split.png?1726148713" style="width: 884px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib"><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Of the property taxes that were retained by the Township of South Stormont in 2024, Transportation Services - such as road and bridge work and winter maintenance, accounted for the largest expenditures, followed by Parks and Recreation services.
