Multi-Use Recreation Trail: Long Sault Pipeline Corridor

The Township of South Stormont's Parks and Recreation Master Plan identified a number of potential trail connections within the village of Long Sault to help connect the growing communities and provide safe and accessible active transportation opportunities. In 2021-2023, some of those identified trails were implemented, including connections through Arnold Bethune Memorial Park and from the eastern roundabout on Highway 2 and extending along Mille Roches Road to the Long Sault Arena.

The concept of a Long Sault Trail Network is to connect residents with key amenities such as the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, municipal assets, recreation facilities, various parklands, long term senior living homes, schools, places of worship, and other establishments such as local businesses. With a growing community it is important to provide residents with safe connections to local amenities while promoting healthy and active lifestyles for those of all ages and abilities.

The Parks and Recreation Master Plan also calls for potential new connections along the Trans-Northern Pipeline that will help connect the community of Long Sault by providing a new extension of the trail network from Chase Meadows Subdivision, heading west through the centre of the Village of Long Sault, finishing with a connection to David Street in Parkway Estates Subdivision (see image below for proposed trail).

The new extension is proposed in 3 phases:

• Phase 1: Parkway Estates (David St.) to Moulinette Road (400 meters)
• Phase 2: Moulinette Rd. to Mille Roches Rd. (900 meters)
• Phase 3: Mille Roches Rd. to Chase Meadows Parkland (620 meters)
