On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Council was presented with the results of the initial public survey for the Nuisance By-law Review as well as a DRAFT Nuisance By-law to consider.
The DRAFT By-law is now available for the public to review and provide commentary. Please visit our DRAFT By-law Forum to take a look at the proposed by-law and provide any feedback you would like to have considered prior to any decisions made about the adoption of the by-law.
A Public Open House has also been scheduled for Thursday, November 14th in South Stormont Council Chambers where residents can review the DRAFT By-law and proposed changes, speak with staff about the proposed by-law, and provide comments in-person.
There will be two Open House sessions on November 14th; an afternoon session will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and an evening session will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
The public commentary from the online forum and the in-person Open House sessions will be shared with Council for consideration prior to any decision to adopt the new Nuisance By-law.

The initial Nuisance By-law Survey has concluded.
Overall, the engagement page had a total of 597 visitors, with 278 users taking the time to complete the survey. While the full Nuisance By-law Survey Summary Report can be accessed here, we have listed some of the highlights of what we heard from respondents below.
- 64.6% of respondents have indicated that they have not experienced noise or nuisances that they would define as excessive/unreasonable/persistent.
- 68.4% of respondents indicated that they do not believe a problem with noise or nuisances exists in their area.
- 11.8% of respondents have made a formal complaint to the Township about an issue with noise or nuisances.
- The three most common noise or nuisances reported directly to the Township were: Firearms (13 respondents), Loud Vehicles, Motorcycles, Dirt Bikes, ATVs, Snowmobiles (8 respondents), Music, Television or Loud Voices at a Residence (6 respondents).
- 88.2% of respondents who made a formal complaint to the Township were not satisfied with the response taken to resolve.
- 154 respondents indicated that they have concerns about noise and nuisances that they have NOT reported to the Township.
- Of these responses, the three most common issues indicated were: Loud Vehicles, Motorcycles, Dirt Bikes, ATVs, Snowmobiles (67 respondents), Barking Dogs (56 respondents), Railway (22 respondents)
- 68.1% of respondents believe that the existing Nuisance By-law is effective and sufficient.
